Second chance for foreign jobs only for those who legally send dollars to the country – Labor Minister

Labor and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara says when registering with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau to go abroad for work for a second time, the amount of dollars sent to the country through legal channels while working abroad previously will be checked.

He said legislation will be enacted to allow only those who have repatriated significant amounts of money to go for foreign employment for a second time.

The Minister stated this while presenting flight tickets to a group of young women going abroad for domestic nursing jobs in the State of Israel at the Ministry of Labor yesterday.

The Minister also said that they are working to get the necessary cabinet approval to provide the opportunity for the migrant workers to bring an electric vehicle based on the amount of dollars sent to the country after working abroad.

The Minister further said According to the amount of dollars sent to the country, tax concessions given to them for purchasing goods at the airport will be increased, and other concessions including for the construction of houses and starting self-employment will be provided. Three women were leaving for nursing jobs in the State of Israel today, and 38 people have been sent to Israel under the program to send nursing workers.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the State of Israel, 500 nursing workers are expected to be sent.

The Minister further stated that while working abroad, as diplomatic officers of Sri Lanka, they should protect their own honor and that of the country, so that it will be easier to increase the number of job opportunities available to the country from that state.
