The relaunch of Lankan Fest, the biggest Sri Lankan culture and food festival in Australia will be held on Sunday 23 October2022 at the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne after a 3-year lapse due to the pandemic.
Lankan Fest, the joyful celebration of the rich culture and heritage of Sri Lanka was inaugurated in 2015 by a group of young Sri Lankan-Australians. This will be the 5th Lankan Fest in Melbourne following successful festivals in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
The event presents an authentic flavour of Sri Lanka to visitors with gourmet Sri Lankan food, cultural performances, live music, and a multitude of other stalls showcasing Sri Lankan arts and craft, spices and tourism. Visitors will be entertained with music, song and dance throughout the day celebrating all ethnicities in Sri Lanka.
It is the go-toevent on the calendar for many Sri Lankan expatriates and a popular cultural festival for other Australians enthusiasticabout experiencing different cultures.
“We are very excited to reorganisethis event after three years. We are honoured to havereceived event partnership from the Victorian Multicultural Commission,” said Dr Damitha De Mel (PhD), President of Lankan Fest Inc. .
“Lankan Fest lastheldin 2018 attracted a staggering 60,000 visitors and we expect this time it will be even more due to Covid restrictions being lifted. We hope to attract many food lovers and travel enthusiasts seeking new cultural experiences,” Damitha said.
“We hope to give everyone arriving at the festival this year a memorable experience of Sri Lanka and its world renowned flavours,” Damitha added.
All proceedings of this year’s event will go to “Ride for Apeksha Fund” initiated by Sri Lankan expatriates in Australia for the National Cancer Hospital in Sri Lanka.Lankan Festis a joint venture of Lankan Fest Inc., Future Foundation for Kids and the Rotary Club of Colombo Fort.
