A Sri Lankan delegation is scheduled to leave for Russia on the 9th to discuss getting Russia’s support to help Sri Lanka recover from the economic crisis it is facing.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has sent a special letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin informing him that Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha and former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Dr. Saman Weerasinghe will participate in these discussions on behalf of the Sri Lankan government, Lankadeepa reported.
The delegation, who will leave for Russia on the 9th, will hold several rounds of preliminary discussions with the high-ranking representatives of the country’s government from the 11th to the 15th.
The delegation is expected to discuss with the country’s representatives regarding obtaining fuel, fertilizer, gas, loans and humanitarian aid.
Commenting on the visit in response to an inquiry made by Lankadeepa on Sunday, the former Ambassador to Russia Dr. Saman Weerasinghe ha said that the Russian Embassy has informed that everything is ready for these discussions.
Dr. Saman Weerasinghe said he hopes to discuss with them all the reliefs that can be obtained from Russia for the economic crisis in Sri Lanka and get the support of that country’s government.
