Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka David Holly assures that Australia will provide support for the development of Sri Lanka’s economic, social and maritime sectors.
The Australian High Commissioner gave this assurance when he called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa this afternoon at the President’s House in Colombo, the President’s Media Division said.
Australia is well aware of the economic hardships Sri Lanka is facing, the High Commissioner observed.
He added that Australia donated the highest amount of humanitarian aid given to Sri Lanka by a single nation, which included $50 million and it is just the beginning.
The Australian High Commissioner said Australia will continue to support Sri Lanka in other sectors as well.
Further strengthening of the understanding regarding maritime and illegal immigrants was discussed at length during the meeting and Mr. Holly has mentioned that special attention will be paid to the promotion of Australian investments.
Recalling the 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the President praised Australia’s close cooperation with Sri Lanka.
