Human Rights Commission begins probe into Kandakadu incident

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has commenced an investigation into the incident that took place at the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre on Tuesday.

Accordingly, a team of the Commission visited the Centre yesterday to conduct investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have re-arrested 600 detainees who escaped from the facility after clashing with the security personnel.

A number of escapees have been placed in remand custody while others are being held at the Polonnaruwa, Medirigiriya, Bakamuna and Minneriya Police stations to be produced before court.
