Minister steps down as President orders an immediate probe into allegation against Aviation Ministry

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has ordered an immediate formal investigation into the allegations leveled by the Opposition Leader in Parliament yesterday (05) regarding a transaction made by the Ministry of Aviation with a private company.

The Presidential Media Division announced that subject Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva will step down temporarily from the position of Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Services until the investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has informed the President in a letter that he will immediately leave the ministerial post to allow for a free and independent investigation.
