Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled the national emblem “Ashok Chakra” that was placed on the roof-top of the new Parliament building in New Delhi after a puja.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also attended this event.
The national symbol’s design is based on Ashoka’s Lion Capital at Sarnath, in which four lions are set back-to-back on a circular abacus in the three-dimensional emblem of the statue. Underneath it is a Dharma Chakra. There’s also a bull and a horse.
There have been eight separate stages of preparation for the concept sketch and the process of forming the national emblem on the rooftop of the new Parliament building.
The logo is constructed from bronze. It stands 6.5 metres tall and weighs about 9,500 kilograms. The emblem is supported by a reinforcing steel framework that weighs about 6,500 kilos.
Later, the Prime Minister spoke with the Shramjeevis engaged in the construction activities of the new Parliament.
Informing about this, he tweeted a video clip with them and wrote,
“I had a wonderful interaction with the Shramjeevis who have been involved in the making of the Parliament. We are proud of their efforts and will always remember their contribution to our nation.”
The statue of the emblem is a key part of the overall Parliament building proposal. Tata Projects is constructing the structure, which is the focal point of the government’s Central Vista project. By October, the projected building, which would span four stories and include 13 acres, is anticipated to be finished.
