Case against Russia’s Aeroflot airline dismissed

The Colombo Commercial High Court today dismissed the case filed against Russia’s Aeroflot airline.

The case relates to a commercial dispute between the Plaintiff, Celestial Aviation Trading 10 Limited an Irish Company against the first Defendant the Public Joint Stock Company “Aeroflot” and the second Defendant, N. C Abeywardene/Acting Head of Air Navigation/Airport and Aviation Services of Sri Lanka (AASL), Katunayake.

The case forced the grounding of an Aeroflot flight from Colombo to Moscow on June 2.

The issue caused a diplomatic stir between Sri Lanka and Russia with the airline also suspending flights to Sri Lanka.

The fiscal officer of the Colombo Commercial High Court was later interdicted over the case.

The fiscal officer had implemented a court order to detain the Russian plane at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
