The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has so far managed to identify 20 people involved in setting fire to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private house at Fifth Lane in Kollupitiya.
The CID has identified the suspects after a careful investigation of the videos and photos released to the social media by the people who were present at the time of the arson and the unedited footage taken from the mass media.
According to the information released by the Criminal Investigation Department, the faces identified were of the people who forcibly entered the house by behaving in an unruly manner in front of the house and the people who led them to enter the house.
Information from the Criminal Investigation Department stated that the police headquarters will soon release those faces to the media and seek public assistance in obtaining information about them.
After revealing the identity, the suspects will be arrested.
The private house of President Ranil Wickramasinghe was set on fire during the protest on the 9th of June.
The Criminal Investigation Department revealed that a son of a former deputy minister involved in the arson had left for Dubai the day after the incident. Information has also been received that the suspect has gone to England from Dubai. The Criminal Investigation Department has also requested assistance from the International Police to bring the suspect to Sri Lanka. Information from the Criminal Investigation Department stated that the investigations are currently underway.
