In run-up to Independence Day, PM Modi urges citizens to change their social media display picture to Tricolour

To commemorate the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative on the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all Indians to change their social media profile pictures (DPs) to the Indian tricolour. He also changed the DPs of his social media profiles.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote,.”It is a special 2nd August today! At a time when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, our nation is all set for #HarGharTiranga , a collective movement to celebrate our Tricolour. I have changed the DP on my social media pages and urge you all to do the same.”

Then, on the occasion of the legendary Pingali Venkayya’s birthday, the Prime Minister paid tribute to him, stating, “Our nation will forever be indebted to him for his efforts of giving us the Tricolour, which we are very proud of. Taking strength and inspiration from the Tricolour, may we keep working for national progress.”

The country’s residents were invited to use the word “tiranga” as their profile image on social media between August 2 and August 15 after Prime Minister Modi declared last week that the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative would take place from August 13 to 15.

According to a government amendment to the Indian Flag Code, the tricolour may now be exhibited in the open and on certain homes or structures throughout the day and night.

In addition to cotton, wool, silk, and khadi, the Flag Code of India was already changed in December of last year to permit the use of polyester for hand-spun, hand-woven, and machine-made flags.
