The Inaugural CMTA Challenge Trophy Cricket Tournament….

The Ceylon Motor Traders Association (CMTA), the most senior automotive association in South Asia, recently hosted the inaugural CMTA Challenge Shield cricket tournament for Member companies. The tournament saw 23 teams consisting of 184 players competing for the CMTA Challenge Shield at the Mercantile Cricket Association Grounds. The event brought together members from the entire CMTA Membership to participate in a fun filled day of camaraderie and enjoyment and the project chairman was CMTA Executive Committee Member Mr. Lakmal De Silva.

The Member companies that took part in the tournament included Abans Auto (PVT) Ltd., Access Automobiles (PVT) Ltd., AKZO Nobel Paints Lanka (PVT) Ltd., Associated Motorways (Private) Limited., David Pieris Holdings (Private) Limited., Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC, Drive One (PVT) Ltd., Ideal Motors (PVT) Ltd., McLarens Lubricants Ltd., Prestige Automobile (PVT) Ltd., Sathosa Motors PLC, Senok Trade Combine (PVT) Ltd., Stafford Motor Co (Pvt) Ltd., Suzuki Motors Lanka Ltd., The Autodrome PLC, Toyota Lanka (PVT) Ltd., Transmec Engineering (Pvt) Ltd., TVS Lanka (PVT) Ltd., and United Motors Lanka PLC. Toyota Lanka emerged the winners of the inaugural tournament with the David Pieris Holdings coming in as Runner Up.

The event saw 300 participants from the entire CMTA Membership, and a host of entertainment activities for everyone present to enjoy. This was the first softball cricket tournament organised by the CMTA, and the event as a whole was enjoyed by all who attended.

Founded in 1919, the Ceylon Motor Traders Association (CMTA) is the only trade body that represents global vehicle manufacturers through their locally appointed franchise holders (commonly called ‘Local agents/ Distributors’). CMTA is affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and is the most senior automotive trade association in the region. The members of the CMTA collectively employ and train thousands of Sri Lankan citizens while bringing in international best practices in engineering and management, developing a talent pool that is trained and employable internationally. CMTA members are all audited by the manufacturers they represent, and the vehicles they import are shipped directly from the factory, designed to meet country specific requirements.
