The National Transport Commission (NTC) has given permission to increase bus fares by 22 percent with effect from midnight today.
Accordingly, the minimum bus fare has been increased to Rs. 40 from Rs. 32, according to the National Transport Commission.
The annual bus fare revision takes effect on July 1, and the price increase has been made accordingly.
Director-General of the NTC Dr. Nilan Miranda said the fare revision has been made following the recent fuel hike.
The fare hike will be applicable to all Sri Lanka Transport Board buses, private buses as well as intercity and semi-luxury bus services.
