Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he will resign as announced earlier, the Prime Minister’s Media Office said on Monday.
The Prime Minister’s Media Division said the President notified that he will be resigning as previously announced on July 13.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena also said the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa informed him that he will resign from his position on the 13th respecting the opinion of the party leaders.
The Speaker also mentioned that President Rajapaksa had informed him to announce to the country that he would resign on the 13th as the administration should be handed over and the transition should be done peacefully.
Therefore, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena stated that there is no need to create an atmosphere of unrest in the country anymore and he requested all citizens to contribute to keep the country calm so that the government can be handed over peacefully.
