EAM Jaishankar & USAID chief Power discuss Sri Lanka situation, global food and energy challenges

Visiting USAID Administrator Samantha Power and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the situation in Sri Lanka in addition to food and security challenges in different parts of the world during a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Power and Jaishankar also discussed ways to further expand relations between the US and India.

EAM Jaishankar spoke about the meeting in a tweet which said, “Pleased to meet @USAID Administrator @SamanthaJPower today. Discussed global development prospects in the context of food, energy and debt challenges. Also exchanged views on further expanding the India-US partnership.”

Power also tweeted after the meeting and said they discussed Sri Lanka, global food insecurity & climate impacts.

She wrote, “Great discussion w/ Indian External Affairs Minister @DrSJaishankar on Sri Lanka, global food insecurity & climate impacts. In last 6 months, New Delhi has had its wettest, hottest & coldest weeks ever. Thru growing trilateral cooperation, US & India are making a real difference”.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) is one of the world’s top assistance organizations.

Besides meeting EAM Jaishankar, Power also met with Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister PK Mishra.

On Monday, Power had met NITI Aayod CEO Param Iyer.

According to a USAID statement, Power arrived in New Delhi to strengthen connections between India and the US and to underscore India’s position as a crucial global development leader in addressing issues including food shortages, the environmental catastrophe, and the Covid-19 pandemic.
